Originally, raclette was mountain cheese held near a fire and the melted part of the block scraped off onto a plate with potatoes and gherkins. Now, it's a fancy grill used for parties with trays beneath a heating element to melt cheese, and a grill on top of the element to cook sausages, shrimp, meats, veggies, pineapple, and even crepes. This raclette grill has some notable advantages:
1. It's oval, meaning it will work on a round table as people can access their melting trays from all sides.
2. It has a pancake and grill portion on the top grill.
3. It's very affordable.
If you want stone and not teflon, this isn't the one you want, but considering its advantages and that it is a great price for what might be only a party appliance, you can't go wrong. For round tables, it's a must.
