(More customer reviews)I had a Kuhn Rikon and still have a Presto pressure cooker. I got rid of the Kuhn Rikon. I love the Fagor Duo. The Kuhn Rikon design is a real pain if you have an electric stove. It is probably almost acceptable if you have a gas stove. The Fagor models work equally well on either type stove. Also, along the same lines, the Fagor and the Presto designs are much more forgiving. You better plan on watching a Kuhn Rikon very closely -- especially on an electric stove -- but also on a gas range. It can get to an over pressure situation easily. Granted you will likely just blow out part of your gasket (the safety measure) if you get distracted. Who needs that? You better have an eagle eye and fast reactions to maintain a reasonably constant pressure inside your cooker with an electric stove.
You do lose some steam with a Fagor though typically much less than with a Presto model. (You lose nearly no vapor with a Kuhn Rikon -- that is about their only big selling point in my book.) The Fagor model uses a compressed spring to regulate pressure. The Presto uses a weight on top of a vent pipe -- this combination is called a jiggler valve -- to regulate pressure. To regulate pressure with a Kuhn Rikon you basically watch a rising spring loaded pressure indicator and adjust the heat as needed. Gas heat is more quickly adjustable than electric. You have to either hope for the best as you crank the heat up and down with an electric stove or play hop scotch between a too hot and a too cold burner. On the Fagor Duo there are two spring compression settings. You can cook at 8 psig or 15 psig. 15 psig is the normal setting used for most pressure cooking. For delicate foods, like fish, or if you are in no particular rush the 8 psig setting will come in handy.
Bottom line is I like the Fagor the best of the three pressure cookers I discussed, next I like the Presto. The Kuhn Rikon is built like a tank and it is an interesting design. I just don't like it as well as the Fagor's and I am a both a mechanical engineer and I cook for a hobby. I'd like to think my opinion is an informed one.

What's especially nice about them are the nylon "ties" that are really useful for steaming outside the traditional use of a crock pot liner; plus the quality is just plain superior.
The only vexsome thing is that Amazon is not listing the quantity of bags included. In this case, it was a total of 25. However, that's an item description issue and has nothing to do with the great quality of these liners.

(More customer reviews)I've used this Crock-Pot several times in the few weeks that I've owned it, and I can say that I am truly more than pleased with this purchase! My previous slow cooker was a Rival Brand crockpot which tended to boil my food on low. I never felt comfortable leaving my old slow cooker on while I was at work for 9+ hours each day. For any recipe that called for 8 hours of low cooking time, the meal would be ready within 3-4 hours and would start to scortch the sides shortly after!
When I started my search for a new crockpot, I considered all options, including high end ranges like All Clad and Breville. I'm MORE than thrilled that I went the route of this Crock-Pot. Yes, it isn't as "programmable" as some (it's options for cooking are ONLY low: 8 or 10 hours and high: 4 or 6 hours - it also has a WARM setting).
For my very first use, I decided that I would try it on a Saturday, when I could monitor how the slow cooker actually cooked the food. I didn't really want to leave the house using an appliance for the first time. I noticed that it cooked the chicken very slowly. I was thrilled with the results. An 8 hour recipe really did take 8 hours, which was SO unlike my other slow cooker! It really does cook on low - barely a simmer - which is exactly how a slow cooker should be! After the cook time is up, it automatically switches to the WARM feature, and remains on WARM for up to 6 hours (which is a nice safety feature in case you forget to turn off the pot).
Clean up is a breeze! The insert is dishwasher safe, and the brushed stainless steel wipes up perfectly. It is a very large appliance, so be sure you have the counterspace or the storage space for it! The lid fits snuggly on to the pot - it has a rubber seal, which really helps at preventing a sliding or bubbling lid.
Overall, I'm thrilled with this purchase - I'm so glad that I decided to take a chance on this slow cooker instead of spending 3-4 times the amount on a high-end one!

(More customer reviews)Growing up in an Asian family, we weren't about to mess around with cheap crumby rice cookers. The Zojirushi 10 cups through the years have kept me well fed for 25 years. If you treat it well (i.e. no metal on the nonstick), they'll last forever. If you don't eat rice every day or don't have a large family, this unit might be overkill. You may think about a 4 or 5 cup. You can, of course, buy this one too. My mom owns 3 rice cookers. If you ever go to an Asian food market, you'll see that practically every rice cooker comes in floral print. I don't trust a rice cooker without flowers on the side. =)

But, watch what you are purchasing, there are 2 separate types of lids on the Duromatic pressure cooker. This is the superior lid as it is easier to see the pressure, and turn it down to appropriate settings-fast release, slow release, with minimal effort. The other Kuhn Rikon's are awesome too. As far as I can tell, they are the same, with the exception of the lid/release. If you have the extra money, this is worth it--especially if you are a beginner. I regret that I bought the duromatic set without realizing the difference in the lids. I guess on the bright side, it means that I have pressure cookers in different sizes now.
If you are nervous about pressure cooking, there are awesome books out there to help lead the way-including pressuring cooking for dummies. My favorite is Miss Vickies Book of Pressure Cooker recipes, also found on amazon. She also has a website that offers a lot of free information as well as free recipes (although some have a small charge).
So, cook your food faster, save energy, retain more nutrients, and serve delicious homemade meals that seem like you have spent all day in the kitchen.

(More customer reviews)I was watching Rick Bayless' "Mexico, One Plate At a Time" and saw him using something like this so I tracked it down on Amazon. What a great idea -- the removable pot is made of cast aluminum and can go onto a stove top. I can saute vegetables, brown a roast and then lift the pot (using oven mitts) into the slow cooker to finish while I'm at work.
The aluminum pot's walls and bottom are about half an inch think and distribute heat evenly. I expected to find hot spots because it's oblong and my burners are round. That wasn't a problem. I've simmered marinara sauce directly on the stove top and haven't noticed any difference in temperature between the center of the pot and either end. I've also used it on the stove top to cook lasagna noodles. It's large enough to roast a whole chicken.
Sometimes slow cookers finish their cycles with everything done well, but with too much liquid left in the pot. With this one, I can just set the pot on a burner and quickly thicken the sauce.
I'm impressed.

(More customer reviews)I understand some people's reservations about this product, but I was careful about what I bought and if you are too you won't have a problem. I chose to buy the current 6-quart model (with the hinged lid and digital timer) of the CrockPot brand slow cooker because this is a CrockPot brand bag. I figured the bag would most likely conform best to CrockPot brand products.
I can't comment on other brands, but the 6-quart model is a perfect fit for this bag. I don't know if CrockPot sells a 7-quart model, but the 6-quart is PLENTY big. I don't think the CrockPot brand can be responsible for the fit of other brand slow cookers.
On a separate note, the photo is a little misleading, but on the positive side. It looks like there's just one long shoulder strap, but there are actually 2 shorter straps that gather above the bag, which to me seems like it would allow for more even handling during transport. There's also a strap inside to secure the lid and the the bag itself is insulated.

(More customer reviews)Packaging was too big, I was afraid that the rice cooker would've been moving around in it too much. Not enough packing peanuts either. I came from South Korea where the main meal always includes rice so I'm very picky of the quality of cooked rice, and so far I'm pretty content. Delay option is quite convenient.
I've tried cooking white/brown rice mixture, with a little more water than I would for just white rice using white rice cook option; white rice turned out to be mushy but brown rice was good. I haven't tried brown rice option yet but only using the white rice option when cooking brown rice still gives me decent texture. So I'm afraid it'll be too mushy if I use brown rice option to cook brown rice.
Put a little less water than instructed when cooking white rice. like 0.5~0.7 measuring cup less. For brown rice follow the instruction. And also when white rice is done, stir the rice around and let the steam out a little bit. It might feel a little wet at first but it has about the right amount of moist after I do that.

Since I've started incorporating more whole grains into my diet, and being a rice-lover, this item appealed to me from all I'd read, and the GABA rice setting is what really sold me. I've successfully used it to cook Lundberg short grain brown rice on the GABA setting, hulled barley on the GABA setting, organic millet, and whole oats on the GABA setting. There aren't instructions that specifically direct you as to how to cook these particular grains using this product, and the barley I cooked needs to have the amount of water I used the first time tweaked for perfection, but I'm really excited about having the use of this rice cooker for other whole grains. I intend to try whole buckwheat next. One thing that is very nice about using this gadget is that there is no wasting of water lost to steam from over-boiling in order to thoroughly cook these grains. I highly recommend this product for people, like me, who dedicate a large portion of their dietary needs to whole grain consumption... just experiment with the amount of water until you get it just the way you like it, and remember that less water than you'd ordinarily use will probably work with this machine. You just add the grains and water, set it appropriately, and let it do its thing! It shuts itself off automatically at the end of its cooking cycle, and keeps the grains warm, moist and unburnt, until you're ready to eat them.

Progressive International Microwavable Potato Cooker with Lid Review

(More customer reviews)Like most people who have used a microwave, I've experienced food products exploding. Sometimes potatoes do this even with the recommended slitting of the spud and Progressive puts the lid on this problem quite literally with their potato cooker.
The bottom of the dish is not the same as using a typical plate because of raised half-inch plastic spikes along the bottom. These support the spud during the nuking process and avoids the "hot spot" on the bottom so common in using a regular plate for the microwave. This helps the tuber cook more evenly which makes for fewer explosions, a tastier spud consumption experience and easier cleanup.
The lid, apart from preventing a mess in the microwave, works in tandem with the raised bottom spikes to contain the inevitable steam which happen whenever a kilowatt of microwaves are hitting a veggie, while letting the food steam a bit in its own juices. Nobody likes a steamy microwave from a dried out veggie, and this product solves the issue nicely.
It's a bit too big for one potato and about right for two potatoes, and too small for three. It would have been better as a part of a three pack of one the size it is and one smaller, and one bigger. That way there would be a choice of cooking one potato, two potatoes, three potatoes, four.
Groan... that was bad, but the product is one I'd recommend to anyone who likes their baked potatoes.

I have used mine for over a year for roasts, whole chickens, chili, soups, etc. and all are done to perfection on "low". Sounds to me like the other reviewer had a defective one. This slow cooker really IS versatile! I have the stainless steel model, not the black aluminum one. You can slow cook all day or speed things up by using medium or high temperature settings. I will replace mine immediately if it wears out...don't know what I would do without it! I use it almost every day.

Fagor 2-by-1 Splendid 5-Piece Pressure Cooker Set Review

I have about 7 various brands and sizes and I have to say that with this combo of 4 and 8 qt models I'll probably never use any of my other ones again. They are built so well... They reminded me of Iron Clad. Plus they are so much quieter than my older style ones. I wish I had spent the money sooner. And, they are full 15 pounders, not the usual 12 lb ones I've had in the past... Big difference.
All I can say is spend the bucks and get the last ones you'll ever want to own.

The sealing ring fits around the inside rim of the cover and forms a pressure-tight seal between the cover and the body of the pressure cooker during cooking. When installing a sealing ring, work it into the cover in four small sections, for example, top, bottom , left and right. Work it into the groove a small section at a time until it is fully in place. Place the cover on the cooker body. Put one hand on the top center of the cover and push down firmly. Open and close the cover several times. As the exterior is stainless steel, it does get hot. But the upside is that the cooking time is about the same if not better than with the smaller pots. Definetely worth the investmest if you are cooker for larger groups.

Imusa 4-1/4-Quart Aluminum Pressure Cooker Review

(More customer reviews)I love this thing! I absolutely love it. It's heavy-duty yet lightweight, beautifully polished, has ample capacity, and with all the safety features very welcome in my kitchen. I do have one beef with it, but I consider it minor. I'll cover that problem at the bottom.
Because of the straight sides and slightly rounded bottom I get ample heat absorption through the vessel. It heats completely with two pounds of food in it in less than ten minutes and continues to cook at a very low (I use gas) simmer setting after that. With the additional safety releases I really don't worry about using it either. And it cleans up beautifully.
The weighted pressure relief valve tells me exactly when to turn the heat down and reminds me that it's cooking. It's such a simple and straightforward design that I really can't say much more about it. To date the two "stews" I've cooked in it were tender, delectable, and addicting.
My only complaint is that the "interlock" on the handle sometimes gets stuck in the locked or unlocked position. This causes me to have to "jiggle" the lock a bit to get the interlock to work. If it's not sealing right I don't get a pressure build-up. If doesn't drop down after pressure release I can't get the pot open. Again, this is minor because jiggling the handle will get the interlock to behave.
